Esago provides a way for high school students to get affordable advice and support on the college admissions process. Our goal is to help every student submit the strongest application possible and make an informed decision on which college to attend.
We have plans to launch our first iteration of the site in 2020 and release a mobile app sometime shortly thereafter. Those who sign up for the waitlist will receive updates on the release date via email.
Our goal is to focus on colleges and universities with <20% acceptance rate since: a) the highly competitive nature of these places means that advice and guidance is more valuable to applicants and b) students who have been admitted to selective colleges likely submitted strong applications and essays in order to get in. However, we encourage students from all kinds of colleges and programs to sign up for an account. At the moment, we focus only on US universities.
Our main focus will be on connecting high school students with peer mentors. However, as we build out our site we may publish tips and other advice through a blog.
We leave it to the college students on our platform to determine the value of their time and effort. But our hope is that there will be enough mentors on the platform to ensure that a full range of price points are available.
Good question! While we are not far enough along in the process to have concrete data or numbers to quantify how much having a mentor helps, we believe (based on personal experience) that getting feedback on application materials can result in stronger, better essays and resumes. However, college admissions is not an exact science and many factors aside from submitted materials (like standardized testing scores and GPA) also weigh heavily into the process.
There are hundreds (if not thousands) of college admissions counseling consultancies globally. Many of their services come with a steep price tag. But as a result, many of them have a track record of success and are able to provide highly individualized feedback to students over the course many months (if not years). Esago mentors do not advise on college admissions as their profession. Their credentials are simply the fact that they too were able to submit a successful application to their university. Esago mentors provide one off services like resume review, mock interviews, etc. on an as-needed basis as opposed to on-going support over a longer period of time.
